2026-2027 Undergraduate Catalog

The Professional Selling and Business Development Minor at UW-Green Bay's Cofrin School of Business is designed to enhance the career readiness of all university students, regardless of their major. Students will develop practical, in-demand skills such as persuasion, negotiation, conflict resolution, emotional intelligence, active listening, and social awareness—essential tools for communicating ideas, navigating workplace dynamics, and solving real-world problems.

This minor emphasizes not only the conceptual understanding of selling but also the hands-on practice of these skills in classroom settings. Students will learn how to present themselves and their ideas effectively, influence others ethically, and provide meaningful solutions to others’ challenges—core competencies needed in today’s workplace.

According to research published in the Harvard Business Review, over 50% of U.S. college graduates—regardless of their major—will work in a selling-related role at some point in their careers. This minor prepares students to thrive in those roles and beyond, equipping them to succeed in professional environments where communication, influence, and creating value are necessary.

Through the program, students develop their ability to effectively communicate, negotiate, and manage customer relationships. The curriculum also offers opportunities to explore specialized areas such as business analytics, digital marketing, and data visualization, enabling students to tailor their learning experience to align with their career aspirations. These skills are invaluable in crafting persuasive pitches, resolving conflicts, and making data-driven decisions to drive sales performance.

It is not only a valuable complement to a business major but also enhances the career prospects of students pursuing other fields by equipping them with versatile and highly sought-after sales competencies. With a focus on practical skill development and flexibility in course selection, this program ensures graduates are well-prepared to excel in roles such as sales representative, account manager, business development associate, or customer success specialist.

By completing this Minor, students position themselves as strategic thinkers and effective communicators, ready to thrive in today’s competitive business landscape. This program is ideal for individuals who want to gain an edge in their careers and contribute to the success of their organizations.
