EDUC 340. Supporting Learning and Behavior in the Classroom. 3 Credits.
This course provides pre-service teachers with the knowledge and practical skills needed to create classroom environments that promote positive behavior, foster student engagement, and support diverse learning needs. Grounded in evidence-based practices, the course explores how developmental factors, motivation, family context, classroom climate, and instructional design influence learning and behavior. Participants learn to identify barriers to student success; implement proactive and responsive behavior supports; collaborate with families and caregivers; and design inclusive instructional strategies that meet the academic, social, and emotional needs of all learners. Through case studies, collaborative problem-solving, and real-world application, pre-service teachers develop a toolkit for strengthening classroom management, building supportive relationships with students and families, and implementing interventions that improve student outcomes.
